Using the CRCI system in your library for defining categories.

A simple classification system such as the Connexions Resource Centre Index (CRCI) allows you and your clients to find resources with ease. Although it was designed for use with young people, it can quite easily be adapted for use with adult clients.

Most career, education and guidance sectors now use the new CRCI system to show where information can be found in their libraries. This system replaced the old Careers Library Classification Index (CLCI) in 2003.

The main points of the CRCI system are:

a) it is in alphabetical order

b) it features coloured graphic symbols (icons) which are easily identified

The CRCI system is divided into two main sections:
1. GENERAL INFORMATION with 11 categories
2. OCCUPATIONAL AREAS - This is integrated in the 'Work and Training' section of the general information categories. It contains 23 different occupational/job families.
