There are many situations where you could be discriminated against because of your age, or your sex, or because you are gay or lesbian, for example. This leaflet explains when there are laws to protect you from discrimination, and what you can do if you are discriminated against. This leaflets are produced by the Legal Services Commission (LSC). They are available in a printed format in English and Welsh, and also in Braille and Audio versions. You can print the English and Welsh versions yourself using the PDF (Adobe Acrobat) version. Equality and Human Rights Commission www.equalityhumanrights.com (opens in new window) The Equality and Human Rights Commission champions equality and human rights for all, working to eliminate discrimination, reduce inequality, protect human rights and to build good relations, ensuring that everyone has a fair chance to participate in society. Employment Tribunals www.employmenttribunals.gov.uk (opens in new window) The Employment Tribunals are judicial bodies established to resolve disputes over employment rights. The website provides information about the tribunals and guidance about how to apply to them, both in England and Wales, and in Scotland. The ET's General Enquiry Line will also try to answer any enquiries, including providing statistical information. However they cannot provide any type of legal advice. Labour Research Department www.lrd.org.uk (opens in new window) Provides news and information for Trade Unionists, workers and the labour movement on key workplace issues such as work/life balance, redundancy, pensions and more. Law Centres www.lawcentres.org.uk (opens in new window) Law centres provide a free and independent professional legal advice service to people who live or work in their catchment areas. It gives a broad outline of where you stand and what you can do.
